Client Profile - Lois Family Farms.
Mangold Insurance, Inc clients since 1955.
The Lois Bros. farm has been operating since 1858, when Henrick Lais (Lois)Sr purchased the original 80 acre farm from the only owner, Pliny Finch on July 12, 1858. Andrew (Butch), Gary, and Larry are the fifth generation of Lois' to operate the family farm in western Kenosha County, Wisconsin. They gradually purchased the buildings and farm personal property starting in 1978 from Andrew and Lucille, their parents, when they formed a three way partnership.
The original herd of dairy cattle was only 39 until 1961 when they added on to the barn, and put in a glass pipeline so they could milk 104 cows. The registered herd of cattle was started in 1958, when Butch purchased his first registered heifer calf, to exhibit at the Kenosha County Fair in 4-H. The herd now has a BA of 105.8, a rolling herd average of: 22,500 lbs with a butter fat of: 3.68. The milk they produce is sold to Oberweis Dairy in Aurora, IL where it is bottled in glass bottles and home delivered to customers in Milwaukee, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and the Chicago area. This unique dairy plant also manufactures premium ice cream, which is also home delivered, or sold in Oberweis ice cream parlors located throughout the Chicago area.
Each one of the brothers has a specific area they excel in. Butch handles the young stock, crop spraying and chopping silage in the fall. Gary is the herdsman, and Larry plants and harvests the crops, and also takes care of all the mechanical breakdowns and maintenance on the farm.
There are no plans to expand in the future unless Clay, the son of Larry, and Kasey, the son of Gary, decide they would like to pursue a farming career.
The Lois' have had their farm insured with Mangold Insurance, Inc since 1955.
